One of my major challenges as a new mother was keeping my little bear’s skin protected and moisturized. I reduced her exposure to common irritants like detergents and focused on a daily moisturizing routine to keep her skin healthy. After trying several commercial lotions and creams most of them came up short in the moisturizing department and those that did the job failed to last very long. I was totally put off by some of the questionable ingredients in those “natural” baby lotions and creams.
While it is important to keep the skin moisturized and strong, I believe it is equally important to mind the ingredients in the products you use. Harmful chemicals in common commercial skin products are easily absorbed through our skin. I want to have more control on what I put on Lauren’s skin. So, I personally whip up and use an amazing homemade baby body butter to meet my baby’s needs.
Im so excited to share my DIY baby body butter with you all! The creamy blend of natural oils is deeply nourishing and protects Lauren’s skin from dryness and soothes irritation.
This baby butter has been a consistent star player in our day to day. It is super mild and gentle on her delicate skin and made with just 5 simple nutrient packed ingredients that keep her skin well–baby soft 🙂 .
Mango butter
This silky butter is a wonderful emollient that works to soften and deeply moisturize the skin. It’s not too heavy for baby’s sensitive skin, easily absorbed, and totally non-greasy. With regenerative properties it soothes and fights dry skin and skin irritants like eczema and dermatitis. Mango butter also acts as a natural mild sunscreen — though it is not strong enough to replace sunscreen altogether, especially for baby’s skin.
Organic Virgin Coconut oil Infused With Calendula
Coconut oil is a true power oil. It works as an anti-fungal, antioxidant, and antiseptic agent. On top of all of that it’s super moisturizing to the skin and easily absorbed. An easy infusion of Coconut Oil with Calendula works as a brilliant antioxidant and moisturizer keeping Lauren’s skin smooth and soft. It also works as an great anti-inflammatory agent for minor irritations like insect bites or rashes.
Vitamin e oil
As a great antioxidant and gentle moisturizer, I just had to add this oil in. It works particularly well in aiding skin healing and reducing the appearance of scars.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil alone is beautifully moisturizing to my baby’s skin. Loaded with vitamin A, vitamin E, and fatty acids, it works to soften and repair the skin. It works great for sensitive skin.

The baby butter melts super fast and absorbs beautifully. Great for Mama’s skin too!
Essential Oil
If baby is 3 months or older, essential oils are a nice optional addition to my baby butter. Never apply essential oils alone or undiluted to baby’s skin.
I typically keep it simple with the addition of just one oil. Just a few drops is all that is needed. One of our current favs is the classic and calming Lavender essential oil. The other is the lifting and soothing Chamomile essential oil. Both essential oils aid in soothing the skin from irritants and are antibacterial.
Though I recommend this recipe to just about every mom I know, be sure to research every ingredient for possible allergies — testing on a small patch of skin before all over application is of course advisable. Lauren and I are in love with this butter and hope your family loves it too.
